With the critical nexus between climate change, environment and degree of water availability, being increasingly realized, and with multitude of stakeholders involved in the domain of water and sanitation, it is important for us to discuss solutions like water reuse, efficient irrigation systems, resource recovery from wastewater and energy – efficient wastewater treatment, flood infrastructure for urban areas in the context of uncertainties. Extreme weather events and changes in climate are imposing severe stress not only on the physical infrastructure of water but also on the societies’ ability to cope with climate stress.

This is the context in which we need to take stock of what are being negotiated in the COP meetings and the much talked about expressions such as “net zero emission”, “phasing out of fossil fuel-based energy generation”, “limiting average temperature rise at well below 2.0”, “climate justice and differential climate responsibilities”, “global climate finance” and so on.
