India Post Dhai Akhar Letter Writing Competition 2026–27 [Prizes up to ₹50,000; Open to All]: Submit by Oct 31

The Department of Posts, Government of India, is inviting handwritten letters for the Dhai Akhar National Level Letter Writing Competition 2026–27.

Indian citizens of any age can write on the theme “A Letter to Mother Earth: My Promise to Protect Nature.” Entries may be written in English, Hindi or any Indian vernacular language and submitted through the post.

Winners can receive up to ₹25,000 at the Postal Circle level and ₹50,000 at the national level.

About the Competition

The competition encourages citizens to express their ideas, concerns and personal commitments towards environmental conservation and sustainable living through handwritten letters.

There are four competition categories:

Up to 18 Years

  • Inland Letter Card
  • Envelope

Above 18 Years

  • Inland Letter Card
  • Envelope

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded separately in each of the four categories.

Postal Circle-Level Prizes

  • First prize: ₹25,000
  • Second prize: ₹10,000
  • Third prize: ₹5,000

National-Level Prizes

  • First prize: ₹50,000
  • Second prize: ₹25,000
  • Third prize: ₹10,000

The best three entries in each category at the Circle level will be considered for the national competition.

Letter Format and Word Limit

Envelope Category

  • Maximum length: 1,000 words
  • Write on plain A4-size paper.
  • Place the letter inside an embossed envelope or an envelope carrying the prescribed postage stamp.

Inland Letter Card Category

  • Maximum length: 500 words
  • Use an Inland Letter Card available through the postal network.

The entry must be handwritten. Computer-typed letters will not be accepted.

Age Declaration

Participants must include this declaration in the letter:

“I certify that I am below/above the age of 18 as on 01/01/2026.”

The official categories are “up to 18 years” and “above 18 years,” while the declaration uses “below/above 18.” A participant who was exactly 18 years old on January 1, 2026, should confirm the correct declaration wording with the nearest Post Office before posting.

Age proof may be requested from shortlisted participants.

How to Submit?

  1. Write an original handwritten letter on the announced theme.
  2. Follow the applicable 500- or 1,000-word limit.
  3. Add the required age declaration.
  4. Write “DHAI AKHAR Letter 2026” on the Envelope or Inland Letter Card.
  5. Address the entry to the Chief Postmaster General of your respective Postal Circle.
  6. Affix the prescribed postage where required.
  7. Submit the letter through the nearest Post Office by October 31, 2026.

This is a postal competition. Entries are not submitted online.

Where Should You Send the Letter?

Participants should send their entries to the Chief Postmaster General of the Postal Circle covering their state or Union Territory.

Important Rules

  • Only handwritten letters are accepted.
  • The participant must be an Indian citizen.
  • Letters may be in English, Hindi or a vernacular language.
  • The word limit is 500 words for an Inland Letter Card and 1,000 words for the Envelope category.
  • The age declaration is compulsory.
  • The cover must be superscribed “DHAI AKHAR Letter 2026.”
  • Proper postage must be affixed where applicable.
  • Entries posted after October 31, 2026, will not be considered.

Deadline

October 31, 2026

Circle-level results are expected to be declared by December 31, 2026.
