#IDWGS Essay: Women and Girls in Science Leadership, a New Era for Sustainability by Anandi Shukla

Author: Anandi Shukla, Himachal Pradesh National Law University

"Technique and ability alone do not get you to the top; it is the willpower that is most important." Sustainable means development by thinking the needs of future generation, therefore women are also considered as the source of development in the society. As the development goals expand the involvement of women increases as women are Little by little, we're seeing a shift in the way the world looks at — and appreciates — women, but let it be known that the road to true gender equality remains long. When it feels like the odds are stacked against you and your fellow females, lean on other strong women for much-needed encouragement and hope that brighter days are indeed ahead.

While you can always turn to your real-life support system for inspiration, these women empowerment quotes will also motivate you to keep chipping away at the ever-present glass ceiling. Bold women like Rani Lakshmi Bai, Anne Besant, Maya Angelou, Serena Williams, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Dolly Parton drive that point home, inspiring all of us to use power within us to make a change — for us and all the generations to follow.

Whether you're looking for something to post in honor of Women's History Month or simply need some motivation to keep fighting the good fight, read these powerful quotes from female founders, famous icons and feminist trailblazers. Women are capable to do anything in all fields whether it is sport, cinema, science, art etc. there are various schemes launched by the government of India for the upliftment of women such as special reservations for the women seats in every field, giving financial benefit to them so that they can come and be the part of development. In various areas or society still women are treated as burden for their family and boys are considered as asset to them but this is not so correct in this development era where both girls and boys are considered same. We as a youth should think women as a pillar of development and help them rise. As when we turn to our past we have many of the revolutionary women who participated in the independence as well as for the development of the country, such as Rani lakshmi Bai, the great freedom fighter who died for the independence of the country, Sarojini Naidu who worked for the orphan children and gave them shelter to live.

There are uncountable of women who worked and died for the country , at present we also have many examples to see such as Sudha Murhty, who student in an all boy college and had determination to build a company like Infosys that is the world biggest leading companies in India. We may take the example of Honorable president Mrs.Draupati Murmu, who belong to a tribe and now due to her determination and hard she is at esteemed position of our country.

Therefore if a girls or women determine to do anything she wants to, no power can stop her to do so. Someone said it correctly that “The day will come when men will recognize woman as his peer, not only at the fireside, but in councils of the nation. Then, and not until then, will there be the perfect comradeship, the ideal union between the sexes that shall result in the highest development of the race.” Talking about the leadership quality of a women we may the example of the present finance minister Mrs.Nirmala Sitharaman, she is the women who is holding the most important ministry, her dedication and hard is the output that our countries financial deficits are able to control and we are the among the developing countries. In the field of science women are working at most as it may be recalled that two women played a key role in the Chandrayaan-2 mission viz., the Project Director M. Vanitha and the Mission Director Ritu Karidhal Srivastava. Similarly, in the case of Chandrayaan-3, Kalpana, Deputy Director played a key role. As 2023, there are 54 female engineers and scientist working directly in our Indian Space Research Organization. They are associate and deputy project directors and project managers of various systems working at different centers.

Therefore it can be stated the women are also responsible for the sustainable development and we as citizens should work upon the women empowerment. “Every girl and every woman has the potential to make this world a better place, and that potential lies in the act of thinking higher thoughts and feeling deeper things. When women and girls, everywhere, begin to see themselves as more than inanimate objects; but as beautiful beings capable of deep feelings and high thoughts, this has the capacity to create change all around. The kind of change that is for the better.”
