Tata Imagination Challenge 2026 [₹2 Lakh Each for Top 10; UG/PG Students]: Register by Sep 13

The Tata Group has opened registrations for the Tata Imagination Challenge 2026, an idea competition for full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students studying in India.

Students from any stream can participate and propose an original, meaningful idea capable of improving everyday life, industries, education, healthcare, sustainability, business or society. Up to 30 finalists will receive a fully sponsored two-day experience in Mumbai, while the Top 10 winners will receive ₹2 lakh each.

About the Tata Imagination Challenge

The challenge invites students to develop ideas with the potential to create positive change. An idea does not have to be large or highly technical; focused solutions to practical problems are also eligible.

Tata is looking for ideas that are:

Original
Meaningful
Relevant to real needs
Aligned with the Tata ethos
Capable of creating a positive impact

Participants do not have to submit a complete idea pitch during registration. They begin with the online Tata Quiz, and shortlisted participants advance through the subsequent stages.

Eligibility

You can participate if you:

Are pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate course in India
Are a regular or full-time student
Have completed Class 12 or an equivalent qualification
Are studying in any academic stream
Are enrolled at a university or college in India
Are pursuing an AICTE- or UGC-approved course, or a one-year management course approved by a business school
Have already started classes for the current academic year

Who Cannot Apply?

You are not eligible if you:

Have received admission but your classes have not started
Are enrolled in a correspondence or distance-learning course
Have already graduated or completed your course
Are not currently a full-time student
Are a non-Tata employee pursuing studies while on sabbatical from an employer

Selection Process and Timeline

Round 1: Tata Quiz

Participants must answer 20 multiple-choice questions in 20 minutes. Questions will cover Tata-related knowledge, general knowledge, critical thinking and quantitative ability.

Faster correct responses may earn bonus points.

Round 2: Game Plan

A gamified assessment of logical reasoning, critical reasoning and quick reflexes.

End date: September 27, 2026

Round 3: #ImagineThat Idea Pitch

Shortlisted participants must:

Submit a two-minute video explaining their idea
Explain why the idea matters
Describe how it can create change
Answer three short questions about the idea

Detailed instructions will be emailed to shortlisted participants.

End date: October 14, 2026

Virtual Masterclass

The Top 100 participants will attend a live virtual masterclass on presenting ideas, explaining their value proposition and preparing for leadership evaluation.

Date: To be announced

Idea Defence Round

The Top 100 will present their ideas to a leadership panel. Ideas will be examined for feasibility, implementation, scalability, impact and overall strength.

Up to 30 finalists will advance.

Start date: October 28, 2026
End date: November 6, 2026

Idea Buddy Phase

Each finalist will be paired with an early-career Tata leader who will help refine the final presentation.

Start date: November 7, 2026
End date: November 19, 2026

Finale

Up to 30 finalists will travel to Mumbai for a two-day experience and present their ideas to a senior Tata leadership panel.

Important Points

The challenge is only for current full-time UG and PG students.
Students from any stream may participate.
Classes for the current academic year must have started.
Distance and correspondence students are not eligible.
Completing registration alone does not make a participant a finalist.
The idea pitch is required only at a later stage for shortlisted participants.
The two-minute video and three short answers are part of Round 3.
Participation certificates are specifically listed for finalists, not all registered participants.
